Miriam Quesada Enciso is a second-generation coffee producer. She inherited Finca El Guayacan from her former husband when they divided their land. She has been growing coffee on the farm since 2005. Today, Miriam and her current husband, Libardo, manage Finca El Guayacan with a focus on quality cultivation and processing.

The volcanic clay soil is rich in nutrients and excellent for coffee cultivation. In addition to coffee, Miriam and Libardo also grow plantains and yucca. They work on improving harvesting methods, ensuring that workers only pick ripe red cherries. Incentives such as better prices and free meals are used to attract good workers and reward their efforts.

After harvest, the coffee cherries are delivered to drying facilities. The cherries are often rotated to ensure even drying.
Pink Bourbon was previously considered a cross between yellow and red Bourbon varieties. The variety was first identified in the Colombian region of Huila and its surroundings. Recent research revealed that Pink Bourbon is not actually a Bourbon variety at all. It most likely has origins in original Ethiopian varieties.

Pink Bourbon has an incredibly high cup quality potential that impresses coffee experts and consumers alike. Its remarkably high quality makes even more sense now that we understand Pink Bourbon is not just a hybrid of two Bourbon varieties but has significant genetic ties to Ethiopian varieties. Among its siblings is the highly esteemed Geisha variety, which consistently achieves incredibly high quality.
Some growers also report that Pink Bourbon is more disease-resistant than the Bourbon varieties it grows alongside. Based on these new findings, this may be due to the genetic diversity it possesses. ☕️
