Jesus and Rosa Barahona have been cultivating coffee at Finca Quindio for over 20 years. When they purchased the land, part of the farm was used for cattle grazing, and another section was planted with Caturra coffee. Today, on their 7 hectares, they grow varieties such as Geisha, Castillo, Caturra, and others, with a focus on specialty production.
To continue improving coffee quality, Jesus and Rosa plan to plant Pink Bourbon and Geisha varieties.
Tabi is a hybrid of Typica, Bourbon, and Timor varieties, created by CENICAFE. It was introduced to the market in 2002 and combines resistance to coffee leaf rust with good cup quality from Bourbon and Typica. Like its parent varieties, Tabi is tall with long branches. However, Tabi has slightly larger fruits and seeds and can be grown at higher altitudes. The name comes from the Guambiano dialect, where “tabi” means “good.” ☕️
